As someone who opposes the so-called “nuclear tax,” an effort to force ratepayers to pay millions for possible new nuclear power plant, I spoke with AARP members at the Iowa Statehouse. Work by AARP members are credited with slowing the legislation in the Legislature. AARP members from around the state gathered at the Iowa Statehouse on Wednesday, February 29th. We had a very busy weekend. I had the opportunity to judge both the Little Miss Riceville and Miss Riceville events on Friday. I also judged the Frogs, Toads, and Turtle Races (a fun experience since I didn’t have to touch the toads). I also joined Team Brenda at the Relay For Life Event in New Hampton. I also had a great time at the Alta Vista Parade on Saturday!

Mary Jo Wilhelm is a Democrat running for Iowa’s Senate District 26. She is currently the Iowa State Senator from the 8th District since 2009.

Mary Jo Wilhelm owns and operates a small real estate appraisal business in Cresco. She also served on the Howard County Board of Supervisors for 12 years prior to her first election to the Iowa Senate in 2008. Senator Wilhelm serves as Chair of the Local Government Committee and also serves on the Commerce, Economic Growth/Rebuild Iowa, Education and Human Resources committees, and the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee. In addition to her service in the Senate, Mary Jo serves on the State Child Care Advisory Council and the Center for Rural Health and Primary Care Advisory Committee. Mary Jo has been married to her husband Mike for 28 years. They have two children, Ben and Alex.
